There are undergoing production preparations for delivering material called superwood to different industries. Superwood is a standard wood which underwent process of partial removal lignin and cellulose from a wood – a wood is primarily made from lignin and cellulose. This is done while boiling a wood in mixture of sodium hydroxide and sodium sulfite to remove lignin and hemicellulose. After that wood is being compressed under very high pressure (5 megapascal of pressure ) and heated with high temperature around ~148°C (300 °F). Some source indicates only 65 °C (150 °F).

Such a material, Superwood, is stronger 50 % than steel and with appropriate thickness bullet proof. This material is also lighter than with the same physical dimensions construction elements made from steel or aluminum. As this is compressed wood in fact, it is also a material Eco-friendly which means it is biodegradable.

Superwood has been developed by a company InventWood.
